not just Your eyes but your EARS as well !
Maybe our eyes are open! Maybe we're seeing a lot of things,
but I bet our ears would have told us a story that was still unfathomable and
incredible if we had been aware. A story that I believe can no longer be heard
in many places.
I love music and there's not a single day that goes by
without me singing a song or playing a musical instrument. However, the voice
of the natural world is unwinding. Years ago, I remember reading a book by a
mystic who referred to the sounds of nature as those that echoed God's praise.
Sounds created by birds, animals and small creatures that create a staggering
symphony can be hard to find today. For now, I can't hear it anymore. At most I
try to play some nature music on YouTube when I feel I miss it.
When I heard this little talk on soundscapes on Ted, I felt
that I really needed to write something because I started to feel this sense of
aloofness from nature. No matter how well I play guitar or sing a song, the
relaxation and peace I receive when I sit in silence and listen to the sound of
nature is something unparalleled. The voice of the natural world is telling us
something. Am I listening?
Bernie Krause in this short video released in 2013 tells us
a story that will open our ears. I said this because it really opened mine and
I feel disgusting to just hear the sound of vehicles and machines alone. Now I
long for the song of the bird and the sounds of insects in the night. I can't
hear them anymore and I have begun to really miss it.
All I want to say is let us use not only our eyes, but also
our ears and hear and be aware of the destruction we have caused to our mother
Earth.
Let us OPEN NOT ONLY OUR EYES, BUT ALSO OUR EARS!
